Likeness
by Gavan Duffy

To know how alike we all are,
stand too close to a stranger.
Close enough to compare height.
Close enough to see his colours
chase and run.
Feel what passes between you,
what hops and flares, what leaps
and bounds.
Stay until he notices you there,
like an animal standing
on its own tail.
Stay until you both feel how contained
you are, like two mornings
filling a day.
